Site civil for storage,
substations, and
data centers.

Design packages for battery storage and substation projects, conceptual site planning for large-load data center campuses, and independent civil review for developers who need a second set of eyes before IFC. Principal-led throughout. The engineer you meet is the engineer who seals the set.

One engineer from kickoff through the sealed set. No handoff to a junior designer, no rotating project manager, no re-explaining your site every quarter.

Files Solar BESS

300 MWhTexas2026
Built
Co-located with a solar project designed by others, requiring continuous coordination at the interfaces. Delivered the full BESS civil package and carried it through construction alongside the solar design team: site plan, grading plan, erosion and sediment control, road design and profiles, pad design and profiles, fence design, and SWPPP. Built and operating.

Cypress Harvest Substation

230/34.5 kVLouisiana2026
60% design
A flat, flood-prone site near Baton Rouge with very little fall to work with, where a conventional detention pond would not drain. Replaced it with a conveyance swale, settlement forebay, and riprap apron discharging to an existing irrigation ditch, sized by NRCS curve number method with a dimensionless unit hydrograph. Delivered as a 15-sheet plan set with pre- and post-construction hydrology and drainage report.

Evans Creek BESS

Texas2026
10% design
A flood-prone drainageway encroaching on the site, natural grades of 3–4% against a 2% maximum for BESS pads, and rock at 3 to 8 feet. Matched pre-development peak flows for the 2- through 100-year storms using rocked diversion and collection swales, with the detention basin held above the rock line to avoid rock excavation. Outlet options were carried forward with the permitting and easement risk of each flagged. Delivered as a 10% grading and drainage plan with technical memorandum to confirm land sufficiency, expose civil cost drivers, and give the client a benchmark for checking EPC proposals.

Principal-led, start to seal

The engineer in your kickoff call is the engineer producing the drawings and applying the seal. Every issued set is prepared under my own responsible charge. No handoff to a junior designer, no rotating project manager, no re-explaining your site every quarter.

Civil scope, clearly bounded

Blue Sky Engineers is a civil practice. Survey, geotechnical investigation, environmental permitting, and electrical design are performed by your other consultants. I coordinate against their deliverables rather than duplicating them, which keeps scope clean and avoids gaps at the interfaces.

Scaled through a vetted bench

Project-level hydrology and hydraulics stay in-house. Production CAD, watershed-scale modeling, and FEMA flood modeling are delivered through long-standing subconsultant relationships, including Rainforce Consulting, contracted and coordinated under one point of accountability. Capacity flexes to the project; responsibility doesn't move.

Licensed across nine states

Active professional licensure in Texas, Arizona, Georgia, Colorado, Florida, New York, Oregon, Hawaii, and Louisiana, with project experience in eighteen and the U.S. Virgin Islands. One engineering relationship can follow a portfolio across jurisdictions instead of restarting in each new market.

Contact

Blue Sky Engineers

Send a site, a one-line, and a date.

Early-stage feasibility questions are welcome. Reviewing a parcel before it's under control is often where civil input is worth the most. Emails are answered within 24 hours, and a first call covers the site, the schedule, and what has already been produced, which is enough to scope and quote most work.
